Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/02/2010

Number: 1

Altus and I went out and did a milkweed check in the backyard on A. curassavica just before the wind changed to the north. Found 23 eggs, 1 egg hatching, and two first instars. Don't see any rain coming, 77 dF, cloudy and humid. Tomorrow we go seventy-five miles WNW to DeWitt County to check a pasture with a good coverage of A. asperula to check it for eggs and larvae. Our daughter was there yesterday and said they saw six, maybe seven monarchs around and lots of asperula blooming. We shall see ... if the weather holds.
