Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/03/2010

Number: 1

Museum staff member reports that while kayaking at Hog Island Wildlife Management Area, Surry County [across the James River from Williamsburg] she spotted a monarch butterfly flying across the water. She saw either the same one or another one a short time later. The butterflies were both over water and moving too quickly to determine wing condition. Betsy has been on butterfly counts and is a reliable butterfly spotter.
