At my home garden in Newport News VA I found the first shoots of Tropical milkweed sprouting up out of pots that stayed on the southside patio all winter! I was thrilled, it had been a rough winter this year with lots of snow and cold so I didn't expect them to make it. Also, the first tiny shoots of butterfly weed, Aslepias tuberosa, emerged from the soil on the south side of the house. No leaves yet from the same species on the north side. Come an get 'em, monarchs! Waystation #271 is gearing up!
