Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/06/2010

Number: 1

Despite frequent observations, we still have not spotted our first Monarch in the Jackson, MS area this year. The past three years eggs have been found before March 25, and the latest record for the first eggs found occured on April 7, 2004. My most recent observation at Choctaw Trails was yesterday afternoon. A freshman biology lab group from Mississippi College surveyed a field for milkweed and for Monarch eggs and larvae. Although milkweed is abundant there was no sign of Monarch activity.
