Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/10/2010

Number: 1

Altus was working in the back corner of a flower bed and called me at 1:00 that a female was working the big curassavica bed. We weren't sure but were guessing that there was probably more than one. What we saw were large, faded females, no males, and they would fly right up into your face ... picked my pockets! I watched one for over an hour and she did the same for both of us ... it was as if she "knew" where we were and "kept track" of us ... that is such a strange feeling!!! Males do this often when they patrol ... haven't noticed this of females so much. I got along the edge of the deck by the pond and found some 3rd/4th instars having "time out" on the top of the curassavica leaves there ... didn't find any new eggs.
These are first adults that we've seen in over a week.
