Tulips EMERGED

Date: 03/22/2010

Number: 1

We planted 25 tulip bulbs in our outdoor garden. We only had one tulip emerge in this garden. We had record snow fall in Topeka this year. We had 40 inches of snow. The bulbs may have rotted in the soil because of all the snow. The clay soil may have made it difficult for the leaves to emerge. We think the tulip bulbs might have frozen because of the cold winter weather. The snow might have packed down the soil so the leaves did not emerge. Our experimental tulip bulbs were forced and did emerge. Their leaves were yellow when we took them out of the chilling closet. 22/24 students had tulips emerge in their pots. The students took their tulips home to watch the life cycle of their tulips.
