I saw a female robin carrying beak-full of mud to a pine tree today, a clear sign that nest-building is underway in our neighborhood now. It had been raining for several days and the robin was taking advantage of the soft mud. She caught my eye because she looked so muddy--then I realized she was carrying mud in her beak, too.
