I love spring in Austin. The fragrance of Wafer Ash and Texas Persimmon is in the air. Golden-cheeked and Black-and-White Warblers and Louisiana Waterthrushes are singing in the Greenbelt.
Here are some miscellaneous sighting and observations in Austin this spring.
Monarchs: Very few adults and very few caterpillars on the hostplant of choice, Antelope Horn, Asclepius asperula. I saw one fresh female on Sunday laying eggs on an Antelope Horn. That seems late. I suspect she is from a brood from South Texas or Mexico. The Antelope horn is punier than usual.
