Tuesday morning, 5:30 am. Cloudy, 35 degrees, old snow covering all ground except on roads and under trees, just getting light, raven cawing somewhere in the distance, robin singing from a nearby treetop. Robin? Yes! Spring! Today, Thursday, they are in full chorus. I don't know what they do for food since the ground is still frozen where it's not covered by snow. Maybe they forage in the litter under the spruce trees. I suspect, however, that they commute from lower elevations where spring is much more advanced and there are probably worms available. No matter what, they are singing for us here in the mornings and that means we have come through another winter.
Happy spring!
