On Saturday, May 1st, Chris Edwards of Solon, Iowa, reported his first monarch of the year at Oakland Mills County Park in Henry County. The observation was reported to "Iowa Insects" listseve of the University of Iowa. He also saw the following species on the same day at Fox Hills Wildlife Area in Wapello County:
