Monarch at Rondeau Provincial Park

We just had our first Monarch sighting here at Rondeau. I saw it the dunes on the east side of the park near the visitor centre.

I was within 5 feet when I spooked it up. I got a good look and then ran after it for 200 metres to make sure because I was very surprised to see it. Definitely a monarch faded and worn, but flying quickly as attested by my trying to keep up with it while running. Im not sure what kind of plant it was on when I spooked it up, but there wasnt much for flowers in the dune area just some sand wort and wormwood. I chased it out over Lake Erie going eastward. I didnt get the sex, sorry. If there was anything else you wanted to know, just ask.

A second Monarch was seen today at Rondeau. This one was seen at Harrison Trail near the Pony Barn by Dale Wurker, an experienced butterfly observer.
