All Other Signs of Spring

The Ovenbird has returned, with his stacatto of Teacher, Teacher, Teacher! The thin trill of the Chipping Sparrow, that sounds like a sewing machine, can be heard as he flits from here to there. We are also enjoying the Yellow Warbler's sweet strains of sweet, sweet, sweet, sweeter than sweet. The White throated sparrow that sings, Oh sweet Canada, Canada, Canada always reminds me of the movie Anne of Green Gables! Today I also heard a Black throated Green Warbler up in the woods singing zee, zee, zee, zoo, zee! The Cat bird has been imitating other birds and ending his phrases with his typical Meow! Yesterday, there were three Broad Winged Hawks circling overhead for most of the afternoon, crying out pweeeee! They eat mostly snakes, insects and frogs, so I'm not really concerned about the birds that frequent my feeders. I was thrilled to see my first ruby throated male hummer at my feeder yesterday around 7pm. I've caught a few glimpses of him today, but he doesn't stick around very long.
