I was overjoyed to see my first monarch of the year today - and so early!!! I saw it at Oxon Cove Park, in PG County, just over the line from DC. It was going so fast I couldn't tell if it was a male or female; it wasn't in the mood to stop and chat.
Other butterflies seen today include:
American Snout (lifers for me, believe it or not!) Red Spotted Purple (first of the year) Red Admiral Zebra, Tiger, and Black Swallowtails Silver-Spotted Skipper Cabbage White Clouded Sulphur Painted Lady Comma?
