Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/15/2010

Number: 1

I saw a monarch yesterday about 3:30 PM and again today about the same time. It appeared to be feeding on the milkweed in my front flowerbed.

This was the first one that I saw in my yard. It looked bright and new. On another note, we bought some milkweed about six weeks ago at a plant nursery in Forest Hill, La, about 35 miles south of us. I had two monarch caterpillars on the plants and they each made a chrysalis, but neither survived. My guess would be that perhaps the monarch came from that area. The butterfly I saw was nectaring and I did not notice any eggs on the milkweed when I checked it later.
