Oriole (1st Baltimore)

Date: 05/13/2010

Number: 1

the female baltimore oriole appeared on the ledge of the deck between two planters. I was in the kitchen and was caught off guard by the closeness of the bird. It looked right at me and hopped over to the planter with the strawberries in it and began to nibble on them. I had never seen a female oriole before and could not place the species since I knew that it was not a gold finch, the yellow coloring threw me off. I then saw in the evergreen trees 20 feet away was the male which I was able to identify easily and then referred to my birding book to identify the other bird as the female.
