Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/16/2010

Number: 1

My wife and I were in the yard yesterday (Waystation #2638)doing some cleanup and, not once but twice, a solitary Monarch came in over the fence glided through the yard and went back up over the other side of the yard. It was nice bright orange and my assumption is that it was a male because he appeared to be "cruising for the ladies". A female would have been hard pressed to pass up any of our several hundred 12"-30" stalks of various milkweeds.

We already have several cats of American Ladies and Cabbage Whites and also eggs of Black Swallowtail, but this was a pleasant surprise. It is one week earlier than my first report last season. Now if we can just get some females in here and start this summer season off with a bang!
