Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/16/2010

Number: 1

Last Sunday, my husband and I were moving tall phlox from my flower bed to a section of the yard where we have been cultivating milkweed over the last three years. It also grows along one side of our pond, and my monarch population has increased every year. On this day, a large monarch showed up, the first I have seen this year, and it was flitting all around the area, landing on the milkweed plants, which are only about 8-12 inches tall in the field. i wasn't able to get close enough to see if it was male or female, but it did seem large and not tattered. We have had a lot of rain, and I am at school all day, so I haven't seen it again, but we will keep watching!
