A single flying vigorously north on a mission.I am most certain it was a monarch.
As a young boy I caught, kept and fed many different kinds of butterflies. My favorite was always the monarch. Very cagey and wily. I felt I was looking into intelligent eyes scanning my face. With a pin I would uncurl their proboscis into a cap of sugar water. After a couple days I would release them. Always happy for liberty.
Yes, truly a monarch. I could spot their unique flight pattern hundreds of yards away. This one was about 50 feet overhead heading straight north.
