Today was the Important Bird Area count for the Black Mountains, and for the 4th year we had the state park. Gorgeous clear day, but it rained up there yesterday.
On the Commissary Ridge Trail we had HUNDREDS of anglewings; estimate about 80% Question Marks. Also at least 50 fresh Mourning Cloaks. Plus a few fresh Red Admirals, and lots of Azures and Orange Sulphurs. I have never seen so many butterflies on one road before. They were everywhere at every step.
Other finds:
American Lady
Pearl Crescent
Tiger ST
Buckeye
Variegated Frit
Clouded Sulphur
Monarch
Juv. and Horace DW (worn; my best guesses)
