5/25/10: Two very fresh-looking male monarchs were chasing through-and-around a patch of colorful Dame's Rocket flowers, along the floodplain of the Lackawaxan River in Hawley PA. Time: 3:50 to 4:15 p.m. Sunny, with big cumulus clouds, hi ca. 88°. I've been monitoring monarchs in this region for 20 years, and this is the earliest I've seen an adult monarch. There were no eggs or larvae on milkweed plants I examined.
