Just to let you know that I had the first Monarch sighting in the Ottawa area on May 24. It was at the back lawn at my in-laws house out on a ridge above the Carp River Valley. Interestingly, it was doing what I have been seeing Monarchs do at this same location for a number of years now. It was obviously hilltopping along with several male Black Swallowtails. Even when Monarchs are relatively rare in this area, I can usually see one or more of them (males) actively hilltopping at this location along with two or more Black Swallowtails.
