Observed several fourth and fifth instar monarch larva in one of my milkweed beds. I had completely missed them previously since I had been searching a second milkweed bed where I had seen the first monarch of the season. I counted about 7 larva at this stage of development and about 4 larva closer to third instar development. Normally all 30 of my milkweed plants would be eaten down to the ground by now but the larva population was sparse compared to previous seasons.
