Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 06/01/2010

Number: 1

I am reporting this on behalf of my mother who saw her first hummingbird at nine o'clock last night. She has had two nectar feeders up for one month now and finally received the thrill she has been waiting for so anxiously! It has not been a good year for our hummingbird sightings. I live 2km away from her place and have only seen a hummer twice. In previous years they would arrive around the second week of May, and we would have non-stop hummer shows for about two weeks as they would stop by to refuel on their journey north. I wonder what happened this year. Hopefully, we will see more of these little jewels on their journy south in August and September.
