Bald Eagle

Date: 05/21/2010

Number: 1

I believed a large brown hawk began visiting my yard, around 5 years ago when the house was built. The difference was when I arrived home from work this spring day 2010, there were two large birds in the trees over my house. One flew off with what I thought was carrying a small animal. I looked up at the one that stayed and could not understand why the brown hawk had a white head? I took a picture of the bird to find it was an eagle (when enlarged) with a large fish draped over a tree branch. (I believe the other must have had a large fish also.) The one stayed on the branch but stopped eating the fish while I took a picture with my cell phone. I thought it unusual that it began chirping, looking down at me but did not fly off. Maybe the brown hawk from these past years was a young eagle? Not sure but did not seem afraid of me. Finally did fly off with the fish in tow. Now I catch the two flying around the neighborhood and over the shopping center parking lot when I go shopping up the street. My yard is about a mile from the water, but did not think they would come in this far, as to why I believed it was a brown hawk all these years.
