Monarchs arrived in southern Manitoba between May 27 and June 2 on a broad front extending from southwest of Brandon eastward to Sprague, Manitoba (approximately 300 km front east to west). Monarchs reached south central Manitoba (Lundar northward to Ashearn in the Interlake - approx. 150 km north of Winnipeg) by June 3 and females are actively laying eggs on milkweeds and dogbane. Interestingly I observed at least 6 pairs of mating monarchs on June 2 and 3 in areas just north of Winnipeg.
