Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 06/10/2010

Number: 1

My Rufous female is here! She chased two Goldfinches away from their thistle feeder, before stopping by the hummingbird feeders. The Black-chinned female who has commandeered the feeders must be nesting in our large silver maple tree, and must have been too busy to notice. Last year my female Rufous was the fiesty one, where the Black-chinned female seemed more timid. It's going to be fun watching the battle over the feeders once the little ones have fledged, and the mommas have time to sit in the trumpet vine, guarding 'their' feeders. Who will win this contest?
