Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/24/2010

Number: 1

Greetings from the lovely Eastern Shore of Virginia! Yesterday (Wed. June 23) I discovered 2 tiny monarch caterpillars on my common milkweed! Yay! A bit early this year, but we will take them when we get them! Obviously, there has been a female monarch, but I didn't see it...but the evidence is here! I have loads of milkweed here in our yard...including swamp, tropical, common and butterfly weed, (Waystation # 1361). The common is about 8 feet tall, has bloomed beautifully, and it will soon be time to trim it back so new growth will be available for the late summer crowd! I'll be nursing these 2 babies in this unbearable heat...hoping to to watch them grow to adulthood and new butterflies!
