I'd forgotten that you collected "first larva" observations. Here's an early June sighting: On June 8, hiking along the Lackawaxan River at Hawley PA, I checked the slightly chewed leaf of a young milkweed plant and found a 2nd instar monarch caterpillar. I bought it home, fed it, and this morning a female monarch hatched. On May 25, hiking the same area I'd observed and photographed two monarchs (both males), the earliest I'd seen adults in this decade.
