Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/20/2010

Number: 1

I found my first egg on A. syriaca in my yard on May 20, and the first butterfly emerged on June 22. Since then I have released 181 beautiful monarchs! That is a record for me so early in the season. On two days there were over 40 monarchs born each day…….what a thrill for me and for the neighbor kids who helped me release them.

In SE Wisconsin we have had a very rainy, stormy June, and very few monarchs were visible. However, in the last few days I have seen many monarchs in my yard nectaring on flowers and cruising near the milkweed. Hopefully, the females will begin to lay eggs so the next generation can flourish.
