Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/17/2010

Number: 1

Today at 5pm on an overcast day at 72 degrees F, I examined 100 milkweed plants in our pasture to see how the monarch larva were doing. Total eggs found: 2. Total larva found: 17. There were 8 1st instars, 5 2nd instars, 3 3rd instars, and 1 4th instars. The number of eggs found is much lower than just 10 days ago, but the number of larva has increased. We are still seeing 2-4 monarchs flying daily, usually still the faded variety.
