This is my first sighting this year so I am excited but perplexed. I just happened to see the monarch on some toys we have on a patio. We have a yard full of milkweed but this larva chose to play on the toys! As you can see the wing has not formed properly because the chrysalis was not hanging but laying on its side. The butterfly was able to fly but barely. Why would a larva leave the garden to form its chrysalis?
