Ken Furtado first spotted a ragged monarch in Young on July 4th. On Saturday morning Ken spotted and photographed a female monarch with good color and a small hole in her wing nectaring on False mesquite, Calliandra humilis. He also saw another monarch in ragged condition on Silverleaf Nightshade, Solanum elaeagnifolium. This afternoon (Sunday) Bob & Gail Morris saw one monarch with good color flying over a nearby creek around 1 p.m. Asclepias subverticillata is in bloom nearby with Asclepias asperula forming seed pods. Elevation 5,600 feet.
