Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 07/31/2010

Number: 1

We recently bought a house that had been empty as part of an estate and started landscaping red purple and other bright flowers-we hung feeders for song birds and hummingbird nectar and about 2-3 days afterwards noticed both jewel throated and another species of hummingbird probably the rufous. my 13 year old son located a nest in a maple tree in our front yard containing 2 eggs. every morning the little guys zip up to the patio and get breakfast while i sit and watch coffee in hand they arent timid at all. unfortunately we had a strong storm over a week ago and only one egg remained in the nest the other fell out of the tree and was consumed by ants.
