Finally! Today we saw the first monarch of the season in our front yard here in Winchester VA. We are at the very northern end of the Shenandoah Valley. lovely mountains surround us. It was a faded female who left us 7 eggs on our common milkweed. We now have them safely in our butterfly cage. It had been a long wait, hope more will soon follow. It continues to be exceedingly dry here -- probably the driest part of the Valley.
