Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/08/2010

Number: 1

I have been seeing a few Ruby throated Hummingbirds really ever since April when I reported my first sighting for spring. I had a feeder up in April...then I took it down in middle of June...because I couldn't tell that the feeder had been touched and I didn't see any hummingbirds. I put the feeder back up 1st of July and seen a hummingbird that day. I know for sure I have 2 hummingbirds, because one will be at the feeder and another will come and chase it away. I have what I call my hummingbird garden on the north side of my house,it has Turks Cap...lots of it, Black and Blue Saliva, Autumn Sage, Loose Strife, Pentas, and a Cardnial Climber...it hasn't put on any blooms yet. Then I have some potted plants and two feeders in the back yard that I can see from my kitchen and that's where I see them mostly... at the feeders and at the Fire Bush...they seem to love that Fire Bush and for awhile I was seeing them at the butterfly bush. I'm sure they're at the flower beds on both sides of the house...but I'm not on the sides of the house to see them...I'm at the kitchen window while doing my dishes or cooking...so I'm always looking for the Hummingbirds while in the kitchen. I've come face to face with them plenty of times while out in the yard watering the flower bed or taking the feeder down to put fresh sugar water in it. I'm hoping my Hummingbird poluation will increase when the Hummers start to make the journey south. And I did put another Hummingbird feeder in the front yard and I seen the hummingbird at the very same day I put it out there...it's hanging from an Oak Tree. We know we have a tiny male hummer...my husband seen it's red throat and then the larger female.
