This was the first Monarch, a female, seen this year although I have found and fed a total of 10 cats, four of which eclosed as males and were released early last week.
I have searched large patches of milkweed and found nothing other than small holes that could have been larva. These patches tended to have large numbers of earwigs. The small patch I've found provided all but one of the 10 and cats has no apparent earwig problem.
