Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/19/2010

Number: 1

We're in a holding pattern before the migration begins. South winds the last few days are keeping the Monarchs grounded. On the 17th, I saw the first true migration feeding......Monarchs so intent on feeding that they almost ignored me----a sure sign that they're getting ready to migrate. I saw only half a dozen or so, but our numbers should get better with each day. There are also a number of caterpillars just in the chrysalis stage and even some late eggs that a female was depositing on milkweed pods Monday. I continue to hope for fantastic numbers here, but the next few weeks will tell the whole story.
(Greatly enjoyed the students' report on the chrysalis forming.....what a great experience to share with all of us.....Thanks a bunch!!!! )
