I live in NW NY and we have had a great summer for monarchs. They came back on May 27th, more than a week earlier than other years. I have had eggs and cats and chrysalis all summer with no gaps in between like I do other years.
I have seen an influx of wild monarchs this last week in my yard, and at the nature center. They are nectaring in the gardens, and chasing each other about. I have observed no signs of migration flight when I am out and driving around. Last week I had a male monarch still patrolling the monarch patch in my front yard and two days ago I saw a female in great condition ovipositing . On my trips to gather milkweed to feed the little striped eating machines I am still finding a goodly amount of eggs, and early instars.
