We have spent the last two weeks in N Ontario, last week (8/12 estimatated) near Bancroft (45 00 05 N and 78 00 57 W) and this week in Parry Sound on Georgian Bay (45 21 00 N and 80 02 00 W).
In both places we have found significantly more Monarchs than last year, including freshly laid eggs, and many larvae, mostly 4th and 5th instars. We have also netted and tagged 8 adults here in Parry Sound in the last three days. Last year we were unable to tag any adults (in the last three weeks of August) at the same location. For comparisons, the highest number we have tagged in August in Parry Sound was 200 during three weeks in 2003.
