Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/20/2010

Number: 1

We have observed several Monarchs "playing" in our backyard butterfly garden during the last couple of weeks. They seem to stay for 30 minutes and we suspect the same butterfly may stay for several hours as we will note a single butterfly in the early p.m. and hours later will see what may be the same one. The main focus of thier interest is the Milkweed pollen in our backyard. Last year - the first year of our butterfly garden - we found about 20 catapillars on the milkweed plant over a few week period. This year we have only seen 3 catapillars and oddly they were observed only one day at the very bottom of the plant. I took a picture and would love to send it if requested.
