Monarch Adult Sighted

Found a 30 acre field of alfalfa in bloom this evening. There were quite a few Monarchs nectaring there, but the high temperatures (80's still then, I think) kept most of them along the brushy edges, corn field, or trees to the north. If the cold front moves through tonight as predicted and the wind switches to the north, I would guess most of these butterflies will be gone by tomorrow night, hopefully to be replaced by migrants from northern Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Anyone in this area who wants to see Monarchs roosting should be out scouting tomorrow for a large nectar source such as the alfalfa blooms I mentioned. If the temperatures drop below 60 degrees in the evening, there is an excellent chance you will find roosting. Use your binoculars.....watch for Monarchs flying and follow them to where you lose them in the trees.......go and check those areas. Take pictures if you are able. Good luck, and we'll look for your report in the Monarch Roost section!
