Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/23/2010

Number: 1

Built new house last winter on land cut out of the forest. A male and female Ruby Throated Hummingbird have been visiting our new flower gardens and feeders daily since early summer, including today. In the past few weeks a third and perhaps a fourth hummer have been sighted in the air. A lot of chasing going on. Also, created a shady sitting area just inside the forest edge with a hummingbird feeder which they visit and a black oil sunflower feeder. The hummers will sit peacefully on branches at the forest edge, yet sometimes aggressively chase Chickadees through the trees while leaving the Juncos undisturbed. Have not seen this type of behavior out on the cleared land.
