Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/25/2010

Number: 1

We had hummingbirds through the winter, even with the unusual snowfall, here in Charleston, SC in February. The morning after the snow, the hummers were back at the feeders. The "summer hummers" seemed late returning this year. Now there is plenty of activity. Three weeks ago, we observed the tiniest hummer I have ever seen. We could barely see it over the kitchen window feeder. We have seen male and female Ruby-throat.
August 22nd, I observed two hummingbirds chasing each other all over the patio and yard. I wondered if they were courting, guarding feeders, or just playing.
We have hummers every day.
