Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/24/2010

Number: 300

September 4
A few stragglers lasted another day and today Saturday the 4th of September we have only a few more flying about.

I walked the whole farm site and didn't see anymore roosting along the edges in the trees. I'm thrilled to see them this year. Last year we were bypassed.

September 2
We have a few hundred more monarchs roost over night (pictures) and then leave in the morning.

August 26
The Monarchs have been accumulating on our hobby farm for two days (since August 24th), and each day brings in more. They eat and then rest in the trees at dusk. In the morning they fly about. I only see a few hundred right now. I am out on the farm about 4 hours a day and observe them at that time.

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum 300 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “a few hundred.”
