Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/26/2010

Number: 1

Dramatic decrease in feeding activity at hanging feeder over the last week! We have 5 feeders going, with a dramatic increase in feeding over the last month, up until last week! This morning, I saw only 2 hummers at the feeder, although with fewer birds, the "wars" are no longer so audible, so there may be more visitations when I'm not watching.

Here in Eagle, CO, I have seen the ruby-throated, although all are probably not rubies after I looked up the different types of hummers. I think there were also rufous varieties, although not the bright copper-colored ones as in the past, they did have copperish undersides and greenish backsides. We also watched a blackish hummer that had dramatic white mottling on its head and back. I am not experienced in identification, but am confident there were at least 5 different hummer species visiting our feeders.
