Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/27/2010

Number: 1

My students saw a lovely monarch in our butterfly garden at 8:00 am this morning. We also saw many eggs & caterpillars on our milkweed. Our second grade classes will go on a "caterpillar safari" next week. When they find monarch eggs or caterpillars, they will dig up & pot the milkweed plant (or a smaller milkweed plant that they can put the caterpillar on). Then they will put the plant in their classroom butterfly house & observe as the egg hatches & the caterpillar goes through its life cycle.

I'm sure we'll see many more monarchs in the garden this afternoon. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and _10__ minutes.
