Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/27/2010

Number: 1

Have had a resident population of 4 or five hbs all summer. Still seeing one dominant male guarding one of the two feeders. Have seen him on numerous occasions everyday for the past two weeks or so. This particular male sits atop the feeder for up to five mins at a time. He waits for intruders, which he promptly drives off and chases around the perimeter of the house. Then he immediately returns to his "roost."

I see one female and two juvenile males (observed streaking on the throats. The juveniles still had white tips to their tails, but appeared darker and richer colored overall than the female. I've been observing them at two feeders (one in front and the other in the rear of house) that are located abt six ft outside the windows. I use 8X25 binoculars for most observations.
