Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/27/2010

Number: 1

Swarms of hummers (Ruby throat--females?) at the feeders all day. I have four feeders spaced about the yard and the birds still fight over them. They have been busy at the feeders for at least the last two weeks and I have been busy refilling with fresh nectar. There seem to be at least six to ten or more hummers fighting for the feeders at one time. They land in the trees above our house and are very territorial with the feeders. They will sit on a limb and wait and chase other birds off. One seems to have been hovering about protecting another bird at the feeder. When another bird approached, it chased it off allowing the feeding bird to continue. They are quite noisy too as they protect their territory, chirping loudly as they defend the area.
