Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/28/2010

Number: 1

We have been eagerly watching for the Monarchs this fall. We haven't seen any at all, but suddenly noticed the milkweed disappearing in the butterfly garden. We have Monarch caterpillars! We've moved 53 babies into our rearing cage and they are happily munching away. Nobody in our area had a very good year raising milkweed so it is very scare. We'll raise these babies and share them with local schools when they are at the 5th instar. It looks as though this group will consume most all of our milkweed which will leave us none for later migrations.
