Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/29/2010

Number: 150

August 31
I observed about 20 or so Monarchs yesterday, but Today there are at least 150 in my farmyard! They are looking for a place to roost as there is a strong possibility of thunderstorms tonight. It has been very humid all day with a strong south wind so I guess I they figured they would hunker down here for the day. I took a photo of 50 or so hanging in a clump on a ash tree. Many more were roosting on dead tree branches and cottonwood trees. Very few very on the juniper tree.

In the last two days, Yesterday (8/29)I have noticed 30 or so monarchs while driving a short distance of 6 miles. This morning, 20 or so in my backyard as we have lots of milkweed plants along our tree rows and fence lines. They like to rest overnight on a small juniper tree in the backyard.
